Course description

Come and learn the traditional craft of Stained Glass and make your own decorative panel from scratch. This is a hands-on course, covering all processes including glass cutting, leading, soldering, cementing and polishing your piece. Choose from a large range of templates that will enable you to get a good grounding in the core skills, whilst also enabling you to finish your piece during the day ready to take home and show off! Learn about different types of glass and choose from a wide range of colours and textures to suit your style. All materials and use of tools are included. Maximum of 7 students. Minimum age to attend is 16. Tea and coffee is included during the day but please bring your own lunch or pick something up from the local High Street 3 minute walk away. There is ample free parking in the streets outside and around the venue. Essential Info: Please wear closed-toed shoes and tie back long hair. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron. Due to the use of lead it is recommended that pregnant women do not attend. Use of a soldering flux derived from animal fat is necessary on this course, so regrettably it is not vegan. About the teacher: April Pebble-Owens is a maker of Contemporary Stained and Fused Glass Artworks. Her work is inspired by the natural world, the animal kingdom, the mystical and mythical. She teaches at her workshop at Rock Farm in Shepton Mallet and is also a Stained Glass Conservator at Holywell Glass in Wells. Her approach to learning is to encourage and problem solve. Being dyslexic herself she understands that repetition and clear instructions are important to help learners get the most from her workshops. Her main aim is for her students to have fun, gain some confidence in a craft and leave with something uniquely beautiful.
